The controversial alternative engine for the F-35 fighter jet is back in the news. GovExec reports, Congressional supporters of the engine sent a letter to OMB director Jacob Lew. The letter asks him to rewrite guidance so the engine can stay in the continuing resolution budget. The administration opposes development of the second engine as wasteful. Supporters say having two suppliers will ensure lower lifecycle costs through competition. The Joint Strike Fighter program engine, produced by General Electric and Rolls Royce, faces a stop-work order tomorrow unless Congress approves more funding.
