A report from TIGTA find that IRS emails lack encryption
The IRS needs to beef up controls to protect taxpayer information in e-mails. A report from the Special Inspector General for Tax Administration finds, too many e-mails within the IRS are not encrypted. The agency doesn’t have enough controls in place to make sure sensitive data stays within the IRS. The TIGTA recommends stronger training and tougher enforcement of e-mail rules. It lays that job on three components within IRS: The Large Business and International Division, the Office of Appeals, and the Office of Privacy, Information Protection, and Data Security.
