Families sue defense contractor over death of soldiers

Families of service members killed by a deranged contractor have filed wrongful death lawsuits against the company. Mission Essential Personnel sent Nasir Ahmad Ahmadi to Afghanistan as an interpreter. Soldiers asked for his dismissal, citing erratic behavior. In January 2010, before leaving, he killed three soldiers with an AK-47.
The lawsuits charge Mission Essential Personnel, or MEP, with failing to properly test Ahmadi or check his background before giving him a job. MEP calls the incident tragic and shocking. But it says there was no evidence that Ahmadi was unstable during what it called thorough vetting. Ahmadi, a native of Pakistan, was shot and killed by a nearby sergeant during the incident.
