The Navy is deploying two roving teams to combat what it sees as an serious threat: stress.

It has stationed an Operational Stress Control training teams on the East Coast and another on the West Coast. They are waiting for Navy commands to call for help. The teams will travel to where they are needed and will offer front-line supervisors and unit leaders skills training.

Officials said the teams would help foster “frank discussion” about stress-related issues. The trainers will help sailors recognize and address stress, so they can build resilience and tackle issues before they become big problems.

The Navy said Operational Stress Control takes a holistic approach that involves a sailor’s family as well as their comrades. Areas include financial management, nutrition and spirituality too.
