Gen. Joseph Dunford, the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. says he plans to do his part to respond to congressional criticism over ballooning bureaucracies within the Defense Department. As Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu reports on Pentagon Solutions, Dunford intends to start trimming some of the functions of the Joint Staff within the next few weeks.

When the Navy buys a battleship, it wants two basic qualities:  can it find and reliably destroy enemy targets and can it take a lick and keep on ticking? The troubled littoral combat ship program has had ongoing questions about its lethality and survivability. Six years after delivery of the first LCS, the Navy isn’t quite sure whether it’s bought a battle ship or a cruise ship. For the latest, Pentagon Solutions turned to Michelle Mackin, director of acquisition and sourcing management at the Government Accountability Office.
