This year’s Public Service Recognition Week could be an event heard ’round the social mediasphere.
The Partnership for Public Service is asking federal employees to join its Thunderclap campaign to help spread awareness of the work done by the federal workforce.
What is Thunderclap?
In case you haven’t heard of Thunderclap, don’t fret. It’s a new social media tool that leverages the power of “crowdspeaking.”
First, a person or organization creates a 140-character message to share with the world. Once a certain threshold of followers join in, Thunderclap “will blast out a timed Twitter, Facebook, or Tumblr post from all your supporters, creating a wave of attention,” Thunderclap explains on its website.
Enter this year’s Public Service Recognition Week, scheduled to begin Sunday, May 4.
Who’s participating? How can you help?
The Partnership has a goal of reaching 500 participants. By 1:30 p.m. on Friday, 473 people had already signed up, including an A-List of celebrity civil servants:
Many other civil celebs and agencies are also on the list, as well as some private-sector groups and federal unions.
The Thunderclap message for Public Service Recognition Week is scheduled to go out Sunday, May 4 at 12 p.m. At that time, a message stating, “It’s Public Service Recognition Week & I’m saying thank you to our nation’s public servants #PSRW #Proud2ServeUSA http://thndr.it/1qOYL34” will be automatically sent from participants Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr accounts, depending on which social media outlet they signed up with.
