DARPA’s Dangerous Waters game ready

The Navy will eventually use the software, but its available now in the Dangerous Waters computer game as well as a free online download.

The Defense Advanced Research Agency turns once again to crowdsourcing new technology products it hopes to deploy. This time, DARPA is asking online gamers to test new software for anti-submarine warfare. Information Week reports, the package is called Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel (ACTUV) software. It simulates evasive maneuvers by submarines and challenges players to track them. For testing purposes, DARPA has added the software to a gaming package called Dangerous Waters, published by Sonalysts Combat Simulations. It can also be downloaded for free. Last month, DARPA accepted entries for a crowd-sourced design of a new combat vehicle.
