The Army has picked the Google android as the operating system they want to put in the hands of troops on the ground.
The Army is one step closer to deploying cell phones to soldiers. Wired magazine reports the Army has picked Google’s Android operating system for a prototype smartphone currently under development. The Army is working with Mitre Corp on the project, and plans to release a platform development kit for app creators in July. Included in the prototype platform are mapping, a Blue Force Tracker program, and “Critical messaging” capabilities.
