So, you’re back for more? Great

So how are your New Year's resolutions going? Senior Correspondent Mike Causey says 2016 is going to be a banner year for federal workers and retirees.

Glad to have you back and be back with you. This has got to be better than 2015, right? Maybe there won’t be any shutdown threats or furlough fights.

Hah!

I don’t know about you, but I’m into day four of my new diet and exercise regime. I think I can notice a difference. Brad Pitt somehow comes to mind. This is gonna be better than last year for sure.

My last diet was interrupted Jan. 9, 2015. This time — 2016 —for sure. What could possibly go wrong? I certainly have the will power. And experience. I’ve started dozens of exercise/diet programs, so that’s not a problem.

In addition to burning many, many more calories in 2016, the plan is to consume less. Eat less, eat better, eat better less often. How hard can it be, right?

But enough about me. What’s your plan?

Thousands of federal and postal workers retired in December, and an equal number pulled the plug on Jan. 3. We tried to honor some of them over the holiday period, and will catch up with more.

So what’s next for federal workers, postal employees and retired feds? Expect a lot of the same old, same old. Somebody will suggest pay reform, somebody will propose a new system to calculate — and reduce — cost-of-living adjustments for federal retirees. Health premiums have, and will continue, to go up faster than your paycheck.

The possibly good news is because this will be a year of political acrobatics, the fed-bashers in Congress may spend more time on each other. Less on you. Unless you work for the Internal Revenue Service or the Department of Veterans Affairs. In which case resume your Oliver Twist pose.

Let’s hope it’s a great, healthy, safe year for all of us. It’s good to be back, and good to hear from so many of you.

Forward, march. Or at least creep until we’ve identified the enemy.
