The International Monetary Fund has been hit by a large and sophisticated cyber attack. The fund manages financial crises around the world. It houses confidential information about the fiscal condition of many nations. The attack was first reported by the New York Times. Senior officials called the attack sophisticated and serious. But they provided few details. Sources tell the Times that spear phishing, or socially engineered attacks, might have been involved.
