The legislative committee of the Council of the Inspectors General has weighed in on two Senate cybersecurity bills.
In a letter to the heads of the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Peggy Gustafson, the inspector general of the Small Business Administration, wrote that members support “the purpose” of the legislation but there is “concern” about how IG’s can reach a “conclusion” about the effectiveness of an agency’s information system.
There are two competing cyber bills in the Senate. The Cybersecurity Act of 2012 was introduced by Sens. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.). Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), introduced the SECURE IT act.
