Logistical support will be a central tenet in the future of maritime warfare. The Marines and Navy will work together to provide the infrastructure and supplies for air and ground forces, according to Gen. James Amos, the commandant of the Marine Corps.

Amos spoke recently at at a military strategy forum on the future of maritime forces hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies. The work of a team Dr. Todd Weber led at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now earning him and his team a top honor. Weber, the chief of the prevention and response branch at the CDC Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, led a team of experts that identified the cause of 2012 meningitis outbreak. He’s a finalist for the Service to America Medal in the Citizen Services category.

The money trail should get easier to follow at agencies across government. But the Government Accountability Office says that’s not the case. The House Oversight Committee told GAO agencies are having trouble using data to determine where to spend money. Mark Forman, president and co-founder of Government Transaction Services, is the former administrator for E-Government and Information Technology at the Office of Management and Budget.

Sequestration in 2014 could mean some serious trouble for the Pentagon. Secretary Chuck Hagel outlines what he expects to happen in a letter to the leaders of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The drawdowns in Afghanistan and Iraq mean more troops will need space to practice their skills here at home, and the Defense Department is supposed to report to Congress on what’s available and where.

The No Labels Caucus will introduce a bill this week to apply more pressure on agencies to use strategic sourcing. The bill is one of nine the caucus of Democrats and Republicans are scheduled to release to make the government more efficient and effective.
