The focus of the National Science Foundation is simple: fund the best science and engineering research projects across the country. Still, while NSF does not do research, Strawn says IT is no less critical, needed to administer grants and even to find projects worthy of funding. Of course, Strawn says having access to so much research helps NSF keep its IT on the leading edge. Still, keeping pace with an ever growing number of grant proposals is no small feat. Strawn says the hope is to one day to use proposals as search arguments to find an recruit the best researchers to review the many proposals, which can no longer be done using a personal touch.
