Federal Election Commission

Alec Palmer CIO April 30, 2009

Alec Palmer wants to be sure everyone understands what the Federal Election Commission does.

First off, it does not deal with voting.

What it does is track campaign spending for all elections.

And as chief information officer, Palmer plays a big role in getting huge amounts of data to the public.

The FEC plans to upgrade several public facing and back-end systems to handle the data.

Palmer says this includes a new data warehousing system, an upgraded campaign finance map and a new external FEC Web site.

Palmer says security and privacy also are major focus areas to ensure the data is secure.
