The ambitious information sharing project between the Defense Department and the Veterans Affairs Department is a technologically complex one. The two agencies have built electronic health records, and have set the stage for a big information exchange program.

Now the tough work begins: getting the two systems to actually talk to each other. Chuck Campbell, Chief Information Officer for the Military Health System at DoD, discussed the process up to now, and offered details about how the program will work moving forward. Mr. Campbell also outlined the time frame for deploying the new program.
