Grassley: cost-cutting at Defense hampered by IG officer

WFED\'s Max Cacas spoke with Sen. Grassley

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley has questions, lots and lots of questions, about the Defense Department’s Inspector General. The Iowa Republican, who is ranking minority member of the Senate Finance Committee, today issued an independent report saying the Pentagon IG office is focusing on audits analyzing how defense contracts are executed, and not doing line-item audits that could reveal billions of dollars in overpayments or fraud. Earlier today, Federal News Radio’s Max Cacas spoke to Senator Grassley in Cedar Rapids, Iowa about his report. He believes Defense Secretary Gates needs to address these shortcomings in the IG office as part of his cost-cutting initiatives.
