What impact will new DoD procurement procedure have?

Changes are coming to Defense procurement, and they’re all part of Defense Secretary Robert Gates effort to cut $100 billion over the next five years from back end operations so that money can be spent fighting wars.

The Defense Secretary along with Ashton Carter, the Pentagon’s chief procurement officer, announced 23 new acquisition and procurement guidelines.

They call for a renewed focus on competition, the inclusion of suppliers outside the defense industry, and efforts to discourage frivolous contract protests.

We try and make sense out of what it means for DOD, and for contractors with Rob Burton, former Deputy Administrator in the Office of Federal Procurement Policy. Burton is a partner with the Veneble Law Firm and a federal procurement attorney.
