Gates says courts should not set policy on gays

The Pentagon has been ordered to end its ban on openly gay service members. But whether or not Tuesday’s ruling by a federal California court just ends up being an interruption of the policy remains a big question, according to the Associated Press.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is warning that abruptly ending the policy would have enormous consequences. Gates said that besides changes in training, regulations will have to be revised and changes may be necessary to benefits and Defense Department buildings.

We’re now waiting to hear from the Justice Department on whether or not it will file an appeal.
