Air Force releases target price for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter
Aviation Week reports the target price for the jet is $109.4 - $142 million per plane.
The cost of the new F-35 fighter jets will depend on the version the Air Force might buy from Lockheed-Martin, Aviation Week.
But the target price should reportedly be between $109.4 – $142 million per plane.
Aviation Week quoted Pentagon officials saying the most recent per-unit target price for the conventional takeoff-and-landing version of the Joint Strike Fighter is $111.6 million.
None of the prices include the cost of the Pratt & Whitney F-135 engines. That contract is still under negotiation. But this is the first time the base-prices of the jets have not been released to the public. The prices are driven largely by quantities.
The F-35 is still competing against the German Eurofighter and SAAB’s Gripen.
