In light of the shootings in Arizona, Federal News Radio wants to know how safe feds feel at their workplace.
The shootings in Arizona are the latest example of the potential dangers of being a government worker.
Last year, security became the top priority of the Internal Revenue Service after a man angry about his taxes crashed a plane into an IRS building in Austin.
A Government Accountability Office report in August found security breaches and acts of violence remain a “daunting challenge” for the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service. FPS failed to detect people walking into high-security buildings with dangerous objects, GAO found.
FPS has more than 1,200 full-times employees and 15,000 contract guards. Last year’s security breaches prompted lawmakers to call for new legislation to mandate minimum federal building security standards. So far efforts to federalize private security guards at federal buildings have not become law.
In light of these incidents, Federal News Radio wants to know how safe you feel at your workplace.
