For Bhagwat Swaroop, executive vice president and general manager for email security at Proofpoint, use of the DMARC protocols is a matter of maintaining trust within an organization, among agencies, and between agencies and external constituents.

He points out that when properly implemented, DMARC not only alerts of, and can be configured to reject, email from inauthentic sources. It can also alert the using agency when its own domain is being spoofed.

That’s why he says he’s “personally really excited to read about the binding operational directive” from Homeland Security for agencies to start planning to use DMARC. “As the leading email security vendor we believe everybody should authenticate it.”
