Today’s guests are Scott Jones, Data Analytics team leader, and Stephanie Adams, vice president, at IQ Solutions.

The focus is on how federal information professionals can generate information that is actionable.

The untold story about big data is that there is so much of it that few know how to filter it in order to generate data to justify decisions.

Jones delineates the differences between tools like Netbase and visualization tools like Tableau Software. If you have a large data set in, let’s say Oracle, then you will not be limited by the tools Oracle provides.

Stephanie Adams describes how Tableau has connectors for many of the major systems where they can take the raw data and mold it into productive information.

One interesting aspect of translating raw data into workable information is the fact that, sooner or later, a human is involved. There is a certain amount of creativity and analytical work that human must exert in order to under the general and specific concepts.

Key Productivity Indicators or terrific bar charts can be productive tools in the hands of an analyst if the data collection and interpretation starts in the hands of a human business analyst.
