Bev Godwin will be stepping down as the director of the Federal Citizen Information Center in the General Service Administration’s Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies. Her last day will be May 2.
She confirmed her retirement today in a brief announcement on Twitter.
Before starting her current job, Godwin was director of GSA’s Center for New Media and Citizen Engagement and director of Online Resources and Interagency Development in the White House’s Office of New Media.
Other previous jobs include being the director of USA.gov and Web Best Practices at GSA; deputy director of the National Partnership for Reinventing Government and branch chief of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Budget Office.
Before joining the civil service, she was a lobbyist and consultant for the American Public Welfare Association and MAXIMUS.
Godwin received numerous awards for her work, including the American Society for Public Administration’s President’s Award, the Neil Staebler Distinguished Award for Public Service and Vice President Gore’s Hammer Award for Reinventing Government. She was also named a fellow at the National Academy of Public Administration.
In 2013, Godwin was named one of Federal News Radio’s Top Leaders in Federal Service.
“Bev is truly one of those all-around, exceptional leaders who not only strives for and achieves operational excellence, but she’s also, really, really, truly exceptional in her ability to motivate and inspire others,” said Kathy Conrad, OCSIT’s principal deputy administrator, in nominating Godwin for the award. “She has long believed in the power of the people around her, and so has really built a tremendously successful, talented team. And, I think, as a group, we all felt like it would be fabulous to recognize her leadership that she brings not only to our office and to GSA, but also to the people on her team.”
OCSIT is planning a June 5 retirement party for Godwin.
