Up until very recently, more than half of all of the phone calls the DoD inspector general’s office received to its hotline had nothing whatsoever to do with the reasons Congress told IGs to create those reporting channels in the first place. But after a handful of relatively simple business process changes, the DoD IG says its hotline staff is now spending more time on its core mission: handling and overseeing reports of threats to life and safety, and fraud and abuse within DoD.
Our guest this week is Patrick Gookin, the director of the DoD IG’s hotline. He talked with Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu about his office’s mission and some of the recent changes within the program.
