With the Networx and Alliant contracts in place, the General Services Administration is turning its attention its next big procurement.

GSA on April 15 issued a request for information for the follow-on to its Connections contract.

Connections is an eight-year contract for telecommunications equipment, services and a broad range of systems development.

It expires January 2011.

“The proposed acquisition’s objective is to meet our customer agencies’ requirements for expert assistance for the planning, implementation and management of network services infrastructure and enterprisewide solutions,” GSA states in the RFI.

“The proposed acquisition differs from governmentwide acquisition contracts such as Alliant, Alliant small business and 8(a) STARS since it is focused on telecommunications and will include the ability to extend, complement and draw value from the existing Networx and other Information Technology Service Office network services contracts.”

GSA envisions the new Connections contract to be for up to 10 years and address two categories: support services and solutions.

Under support services, GSA is considering areas such as program or project manager, network engineer and green energy occupations.

Under solutions, the agency is considering areas such as installation, operation and maintenance of PBX, wireless PBXs, local area networks, wireless LANs and several other telecommunication systems.

GSA also wants to know how vendors would provide the analysis, design, installation, operations and maintenance of IP based voice, data and video based systems/applications.

GSA says responses are due by May 15.
