The Department of Agriculture is starting a five-year pay-for-performance program for almost 3,000 employees in the Food Safety Inspection Service. It should be noted that these feds are all part of a non-bargaining unit and that the pilot project will start in July. Tony Thompson is Assistant Administrator for the Office of Management at USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service and is here to explain how this program will work and why it’s being implemented.
