  • An antivirus company for Apple has discovered a backdoor malware attack that targets Mac users. PC World reports the malicious code aims to take complete control of infected machines — and once that happens, the sky is the limit for what it can do. The company says infection levels are low, but the numbers could rise because the bad code has been posted online, where criminals can get ahold of it freely.
  • The U.S. Naval Academy Foundation is creating the Center for Cyber Security Studies at the academy. Creation of the center is part of the Navy’s increased focus on cyber security and cyber warfare. The center will enhance educational opportunities available to midshipmen, faculty and staff by supporting the study of cyber security and cyber warfare, and will serve as a center for curricular innovation, community outreach, and learning. Learn more about it this morning at 8:30 when the Federal Drive welcomes Andrew Phillips, U.S. Naval Academy Academic Dean and Provost.
  • McAfee has recognized the efforts of a federal employee with the McAfee Cybercrime Fighter Award. Shawn Henry, assistant director in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office, was lauded for “his efforts protecting the nation from cybercrime and his role in revamping cyberstrategy and investigative programs.” You can learn more about Henry’s job and his accomplishments from a Federal Drive interview last week by clicking here
