The National Trust for Historic Preservation is suing the Department of Defense over its plans to build up troop numbers in Guam. The Guam Preservation Trust joined in the suit, along with a group called “We are Guåhan,” to keep the Pentagon from building five firing ranges near Pagat Village. The suit claims that the village is an ancient settlement, and that the firing ranges would cause harm to the village’s historic setting, put the village in harm’s way, and keep the public from being able to access the site. The National Trust put the site on its annual list of America’s Eleven Most Endangered Historic Places this year.
