Trauma treatment translated from the battlefield

Almost since the beginning, the technologies developed for warfare have eventually benefited peace-time pursuits. The same is true for the injuries sustained by soldiers. Medical techniques developed on the battlefield result in new ways of helping everyone. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are no exceptions. They’ve advanced surgery in a way that benefits troops and civilians alike. Joining us with an update is Doctor John Holcomb, professor of surgery at the University of Texas Health Center in Houston. Dr. Holcomb is a former commander of the Army’s Institute of Surgical Research at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
