NORAD ready to track Santa on Christmas Eve

Want to know when Santa is making it to your house? NORAD can help!

More than a half century ago, Continental Air Defense Command – the precursor to NORAD – started tracking Santa Claus as he made his way across the globe on Christmas Eve. The Federal Drive talked about the tradition, which continues today, with Army Major Mike Humphreys, the Public Affairs Officer with NORAD and US NORTHCOM. He told FederalNewsRadio that the tradition started — because of a wrong number!

In related news, the Federal Aviation Administration announced that it has certified Santa’s sleigh as equipped with Next-Gen technology.

“Santa One, led by Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, is outfitted with new satellite-based NextGen technology, which will allow Santa to deliver more toys to more children with improved safety and efficiency,” the FAA said.
