Two George Mason University researchers are calling the bluff of the nation’s cybersecurity experts. In their latest research paper, Jerry Brito and Tate Watkins at GMU’s Mercatus Center, question the severity of the cyber threat.

They aren’t saying the threat doesn’t exist – only that the public should be provided more evidence. The paper compares the lack of information about the cyber threat to the lack of information during the run-up to the Iraq war. It also draws a parallel between the cybersecurity industry and the military-industrial complex of the cold war. And it looks at ways to analyze the cybersecurity threat.
