McChrystal to oversee military family initiative

In a new initiative, the White House is reaching out to military families…. just not the gay ones. When First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden announced the “Joining Forces” program this week, CBSNews reports civilian representatives of gay and lesbian military families were barred from the White House event. According to the administration, the First Lady and Dr. Biden, look forward to working with the families of gay and lesbian service members after Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is repealed. In the meantime, the “Joining Forces” program will seek community involvement to assist military families. Retired General Stanley McChrystal is on a three-person panel that will oversee the program.
