The Defense Department is trying to put a number on how much it’s saving in an efficiency drive. Federal Times reports DOD is creating a quarterly reporting system to track savings. The goal is administrative savings of 24 billion dollars in 2012. That money could be put back into direct war-fighting capabilities. A third of the savings will come from a civilian pay freeze. Elizabeth McGrath is DOD’s deputy chief performance officer. She tells Federal Times results of the quarterly savings reports will be made public.
