GSA makes progress on greening the fleet
Michael Robertson, GSA\'s chief of staff, provided an update on the agency\'s continuing green and clean energy efforts.
When it comes to greening the government, the General Services Administration has been at the forefront. GSA has devised policies for everything from retro-fitting federal buildings to disposing of old computers.
Perhaps its letters stand for Green Services Administration? 
Robertson traced GSA’s robust green role to a 2009 executive order, which gave the agency a “broad opportunity to help the government move to the green space,” he said.
He provided an update of GSA’s electric vehicles pilot, which aims to reduce the overall number of vehicles in the federal fleet and also bring in more fuel-efficient ones. As the latest piece of that initiative, GSA purchased 116 electric cars to be used by federal agencies across the country, he said.
Just last week, the Treasury Department and the Navy were the recipients of the first tranche of those vehicles.
