Keeping federal agencies on track and on task requires a “check of the pulse” every now and then.

The IBM Center for the Business of Government has published what it hopes will be a roadmap for measuring agency performance, “A Guide to Data-Driven Performance Reviews.”

John Kamensky, a senior fellow and associate partner at the center, joined the Federal Drive with Tom Temin and Amy Morris with some pointers from the guide.

The IBM Center report aimed to develop strategies for federal executives to monitor and improve agency efficiency and effectiveness.

“This goal is pursued through the use of regularly scheduled, structured, data-driven meetings to review performance indicators with department or program personnel,” the report found, with data being the key ingredient of these reviews.
