Tax season is here and the IRS is warning about the latest scams targeting taxpayers.

One of the newest threats involves a phishing attack. A phony email that appears to be from IRS tells recipients that they will be fined up to $10,000 for failing to file their tax return on time. It then directs you to a fake website where scammers and identity thieves can steal your personal information.

The IRS says it does not communicate with taxpayers via email or social media. It encourages any suspicious messages or links be sent to the IRS phishing mailbox.
