About 700 different federal departments, agencies, initiatives and teams have set up a total of more than 1,000 Twitter accounts. More than 60 percent of these Twitter accounts are used by the Department of Defense. This data comes from a new report issued by the IBM Center for the Business of Government called “Working the Network.” Author Ines Mergel tells us if tweets are the proverbial trees that fall in the woods or a powerful change agent.
The shrinking federal budget means required adjustments to the size of the workforce, and fewer people means fewer things and less space to accommodate them. But smaller work forces are not just something the United States government contends with. Governments across the globe are realigning their people assets with their property assets. Tom Harris, the head of public sector research at Deloitte UK, talks about recent case studies on how other governments are effectively downsizing.
