Hackers swipe personal information of thousands of Yahoo users

Yahoo confirmed that a hacker group stole, then posted 450,000 unencrypted user-names and passwords from one of its services.

Most federal workers understand the wisdom of using different passwords for each online service they use. But sometimes, even that’s not enough. Yahoo confirmed that a hacker group stole, then posted 450,000 unencrypted user-names and passwords from one of its services.

ComputerWorld reported Yahoo was downplaying the threat because most of the accounts were inactive. But the file included 100,000 G-mail account passwords and another 55,000 from Hotmail.

The hacker group calls itself D-33-Ds Company. Yahoo said it has patched the security hole in its server.
