Private firm to update Army hotels

Rest Easy is updating accommodations at Washington-area bases. They're expanding and modernizing existing hotels.

The Army is turning its base hotels over to the hospitality industry.

The Washington Post reported the service is seeking new ways to maximize its real estate.

Now the company Rest Easy is updating accommodations at Washington-area bases. They’re expanding and modernizing existing hotels. They may be more comfortable but not exactly luxurious. For example, a facility at Fort Belvoir is becoming a Holiday Inn Express.

The Army’s deal with Rest Easy lasts 50 years. When it’s over, the service plans to resume control of the hotels.
