The Defense Department has redesigned a critical tool for detecting concussions.

The Military Acute Concussion Evaluation, or MACE is a list of questions and a map that helps first responders determine the next steps of care for the injured.

Combats medics are not medical doctors so the MACE systems helps guide their assessment like a decision tree.
