Would you like a job that’s bounded by 469 rules enshrined in law? Sounds like a recipe for prison no matter what you do. Contracting officers in the Defense Department deal with those rules every day. The Defense version of the Federal Acquisition Regulation has nearly 500 statutory requirements. Joe Petrillo is a procurement lawyer with the law firm Petrillo & Powell. He explains some of the more obscure but important ones.

The government just doesn’t have enough money to do everything expected of it. And that is what’s wrong with the budget process, according to Relmond Van Daniker. He’s the executive director of the Association of Government Accountants. As part of our special series, Now or Never: Ideas to Save the Failing Budget Process, Van Daniker says the federal government should learn lessons from the states.

A day after formally submitting the 2015 budget proposal, Pentagon leaders came to Capitol Hill to defend it. As Federal News Radio’s Jared Serbu reports, it appears they’ve got more persuading to do.
