The civilian side of the government has been benefiting from a fleet of more than 300 drones. They have detected forest fires before they got out of control. They have inspected dams and pipelines. They have even helped in wild horse roundups. Overseeing all this work is Mark Bathrick, director of the Office of Aviation Services at the Interior Department. He and his team are finalists in this year’s Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals Program, or “Sammies,” and he joins Federal Drive with Tom Temin to talk about it.
