Navy chief information officer Rob Carey has accepted a job with the service’s new cyber fleet.
Carey, who announced earlier this month that he is stepping down from the CIO job, says he will move into an operational position to help improve the Navy’s cybersecurity.
The Navy created the Fleet Cyber Command in February.
Carey says he will start in his new role by the end of the summer.
“I’ll be working a different aspect of cyber,” Carey writes in an e-mail.
He says he will be “helping the Navy deliver the balance of access and security while integrating the best concepts that industry and academia have to offer.”
Carey says his new job will focus on cyber strategy and policy for all Navy networks. He will be working directly for Vice Adm. Bernard McCullough, head of the cyber fleet.
