Google warns users of state-sponsored attacks

Google has sent out messages to some of its search engine users warning them they may be victims of a government-sponsored cyber attack.

“We believe state-sponsored attackers may be attempting to compromise your account or computer.”

That’s a new warning that Google is sending some users.

If you see it, highlighted in pink at the top of your screen, it means that Google suspects a government is targeting you.

The company said it does not necessarily mean that your account has been hijacked, but you should change your password and update your browser and operating system.

The company said it cannot reveal how it knows this activity is state sponsored.
