The Pentagon says it isn’t planning for automatic budget cuts just yet, but it will have to plan for shrinking budgets overall, and for individual programs too.

One of the most controversial and expensive is the Joint Strike Fighter program, the F-35 Lightning .

The Government Accountability Office recently reviewed the program, recommending that the Defense Department analyze how reduced funding levels will impact the program.

Mike Sullivan, the director of Acquisition and Sourcing Management Issues at GAO, discusses more from the report.

Jeff SteinhoffExecutive Director, KPMG Government Institute

Agency leaders know that budget cuts are coming. But what they may not realize is that there are now more tools than ever to help ensure that the cuts don’t hurt too much.

Jeff Steinhoff, Executive Director of the KPMG Government Institute and former Assistant Comptroller General of the United States at the Government Accountability Office, talks about what those tools are. He’s writing about them in a new book called Governing to Win: Enhancing National Competitiveness Through New Policy and Operating Approaches.
