Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has named Alan Bersin to lead efforts to end illegal immigration from Mexico and end drug violence along the border.

With analysis on this appointment is Stewart Verdery, Partner and Founder of the Monument Policy Group.

Verdery served as the first assistant secretary for policy and planning at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2003 – 2005.
