Five Gov 2.0 tips for training future leaders

Blogger Yasmin Fodil offers five tips to train future leaders in technology and Gov 2.0.

In her blog We the Goverati, consultant Yasmin Fodil offers tips to agencies for training future leaders in technology and Gov 2.0. Fodil is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy school and gears her list toward how to train Kennedy students:

  1. Highlight the ‘awesomeness’ of a government career
Let students know about the various jobs that involve technology in government and the skills needed for those jobs.
  2. Make ‘Innovations in Government’ a core course
This would not have to be a “strictly techy” course but would be based more on case studies.
  3. Produce technology-related cases
Incorporate technology in other courses, such as econ, stats and management.
  4. Develop a civic innovation incubator
Hook up students with experts in business and entrepreneurship.
  5. Model the behavior you want to see in government
The school can create an “ideascale like platform” that allows students to participate in the planning and decision-marking process.
