  • The Air Force needs to shake up it’s acquisition system — that’s the word from departing Lt. General Dave Deptula. He says the current Air Force system was born in the industrial age and simply no longer works. The biggest problem in the acquisition process? Deptula points to the complexities of the Joint Capabilities Integration Development System. He joked, “Al Qaeda doesn’t have a JCIDS process,” according to DOD Buzz online defense and acquisition journal. Instead, Deptula points to Big Safari. The Big Safari is an independent office that has helped develop Air Force remotely piloted vehicles since the early 1960s. That should be a model for acquisition going forward. He cautioned that his thoughts on the acquisition system were personal and did not reflect the Air Force.

The top 25 teams each won a cash prize — with the top five apps. earning three thousand dollars each. The Apps for the Army applications will be available for Defense Department card holders through the DoD Application Storefront beginning August 3. Read more at the Dorobek Must Reads page.
