The Air Force is moving each of its commands away from having its own network.
Major General Richard Webber, commander of the 24th Air Wing and Air Force Cyber Command, received approval from the Air Force inspector general last week to become fully operational. Webber says the command, which is located in San Antonio, Texas, will move into that full phase soon.
Webber told the House Armed Services Committee Thursday about the reasons the service needs to change and how the command is going about it.
Along with the Air Force’s new command, the Army is getting a new leader for its cyber organization. Major General Rhett Hernandez takes the helm of the Army Cyber Command October 1.
And October 1 happens also to be the day that the DoD Cyber Command at Fort Meade officially launches. Each of the military services already have major contingents, or as General Keith Alexander, DoD Cyber Command commander says, a significant beachhead at Fort Meade.
