The Defense Department and Veterans Affairs still are a long way from the development of a joint electronic health record system.

That’s one of the conclusions made in a new Government Accountability Office report. Furthermore, GAO says neither department has any particular plans, goals, or timeframes for creating a system.

In his blog, GovExec’s Bob Brewin calls the report a sad tale that goes on for 78 pages. He points out – Congress has been pushing for a joint health record system for more than a decade.
